Prejudice in America

Our country has a long history of prejudice.  African Americans were slaves and only counted as 3/5 of a person.  Irish Americans were invited not to apply for positions.  Jews were discriminated against prior to WWII and beyond.  German Americans and Japanese Americans suffered during WWII and beyond.  JFK was questioned about his loyalty to America or the Vatican.  Now it is Muslim Americans.

Personally I hate the hyphenated American thing.  Either you are an American or not.

I would like to think that we are Americans or not Americans.  I detest having to remember to say African American, Muslim American or Mexican American and remembering to to put a hyhphen or not.

We are all the same people....we all immigrated here at some point....and we all learned how to get along in this country.

I think that this country has learned, more than any other country, how to get along and assimilate immigrants.

Will our Congress let us do what we do best?  Or, will they try to legislate our hearts?
